A tunnel doesn't show distress on its face. It shows it in the numbers.

Convergence, lining stress, and ground movement around a tunnel develop quietly over years. Inspection catches what's already happened. Monitoring catches what's coming.

The problem

What goes wrong in a tunnel is hidden by the structure itself.

A tunnel lining is under continuous load from the ground around it.

That load shifts with groundwater, adjacent construction, seismic events, and long-term creep — none of which are visible to a walking inspection.

ConvergenceThe tunnel cross-section closing gradually as ground pressure exceeds the lining's resistance — millimetres at first, then accelerating.
Lining cracking and spallingStress concentrations in concrete or shotcrete that develop between inspection cycles, invisible until a piece falls.
Groundwater ingressWater finding paths through cracks or joints, eroding the annular grout and weakening the bond between lining and ground.
Settlement of structures aboveA building, road, or railway above the tunnel crown settling as ground arches around the excavation over time.

Monitoring a tunnel by walking it is like checking a pressurized pipe by looking at the outside — the failure is already inside before you see anything.

What it costs you

A tunnel closure for structural assessment costs far more than the monitoring that would have prevented it.

Service interruptionA transit or road tunnel taken out of service for structural investigation costs days to weeks of disruption and diverted traffic.
Emergency lining repairReactive repair of a cracked or spalling section in an active tunnel costs three to five times a planned intervention — and requires traffic management on top.
Groundwater remediationUndetected ingress that reaches the track bed or roadway creates a second, separate repair scope.
Liability for structures aboveSettlement damage to a building above the tunnel that wasn't being monitored is difficult to defend.
What monitoring gives you

Know what the tunnel lining and the ground around it are doing — continuously, without entering the tunnel.

Full structural picture from day oneConvergence, lining strain, crack width, groundwater pressure, and vibration tracked from installation. Every reading measured against a real baseline, not a design assumption.
Fewer intrusive inspectionsContinuous remote data replaces scheduled manual convergence surveys, cutting the cost and disruption of taking a tunnel out of service to inspect it.
Earlier detection of adjacent construction effectsWhen a nearby excavation or pile installation starts affecting the tunnel, the data shows it within hours — not at the next inspection.
A defensible recordA continuous structural history for the tunnel owner, the operator, and the regulator.
How it works

Four stages, from the first signal to the decision.

01 · Observe

Watch the tunnel

Convergence, lining strain, groundwater pressure, and vibration captured continuously along the alignment.

02 · Estimate

Read the change

Is convergence seasonal and stable — or is it trending in one direction without recovering?

03 · Predict

See where it leads

A strain reading approaching the design limit; groundwater pressure rising after a nearby excavation begins.

04 · Decide

Act in time

Inject, reinforce, or restrict loading — with data to support the call before the lining tells you itself.

Under the hood: Convergence sensors, strain gauges, crack meters, piezometers, and vibration monitors integrated with wireless data acquisition — specifying and installing the right sensing is our job, not your concern.

Continuous early-warning is the direction we're building toward. What we deliver today is the monitoring itself and the responsive engineering behind it.
